Day 1—Jerusalem, Israel

I get to go to some incredible places in search of ingredients for our Wallford Fragrances, and this trip is no difference. I landed at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, just out side the ancient city of Jerusalem. It’s is one of the oldest cities in the world, and is a holy site to several religions.

I wanted to take in the spirituality of the city, but my destination was just on the other side of the city...the mystic area of the Dead Sea.

Day 2—Mahane Yehuda Market, Israel

I would be remiss in my duties if I did not stop at the famous Mahane Yehuda Market, known for its countless spices from around the region, Africa, and Europe. The market offers unique spices and herbs, and the plethora of fragrances fill the air. I took several notes and will let you know which of these end up in one of our fragrances.

Day 3—Mahane Yehuda Market, Israel

I followed my nose this morning. After the countless spices got my senses flowing, I had to find breakfast, and in Mahane Yahuda Market this was almost as daunting. Fresh breads, rolls, bagels and pastry roll on as far as the eye could see. Fresh fruits and vegetables are like a rainbow of color in their stands. I won’t embarrass myself and tell you how much I partook of the endless bounty...that tale will have to wait.

Day 4— Masada Fortress, Israel

Lest you think all I do is eat on these trips…I took a tour of Masada Fortress. Built by Herod the Great in 37-31 BCE, it is one of the most popular attractions in Israel. It’s located on a plateau about 1,300 feet up. You can take on of two hiking trails, or like I did, the cable car with its spectacular view of the valley.

Day 5— Dead Sea, Jordan

It’s truly a site to behold. In all the World, there is possibly no body of water as famous as the mysterious Dead Sea…and I was standing on it’s bank. I had made this journey to discover the very essence of the mystical waters, capture these properties, and unlock peace and serenity in a fragrance. I was able to do that and much more in the Dead Sea Antiquity Collection.

Day 6— Dead Sea, Israel

It’s no secret that the Dead Sea holds people in awe, and the mud is as mysterious as the Sea itself. With its unique combination of minerals like magnesium, sodium, and potassium, millions of people come to rub the deep rich mud on their bodies. The benefits are numerous: from improving acne and psoriasis to alleviating arthritis and back pain. The salt, minerals and “magic” perform miracles!

Day 7— Dead Sea, Israel

Maybe the most magical thing about the Dead Sea is the salt. The Dead Sea is at the lowest sea level of any body of water on the planet. The waters are so saturated with salt (10 times more than the ocean) it is nearly impossible for a person to sink. The waters calm and relax , help with ailments and refresh the soul…these are the effects I’m going to capture with the Dead Sea Antiquity Fragrance!

Day 8— New York, New York, USA

Sitting in the fragrance labs at Wallford after another trip, and I was astonished at the ancient beauty of the Dead Sea and the feeling of peace from the saline waters. This is the essence we have embodied in our new Dead Sea Antiquity Collection of fragrances.
